LASER AND IPL PIGMENTATION REMOVAL – FRECKLES & SUN SPOTS

Ultraviolet solar radiation is responsible for the appearance of freckles and sunspots on the skin. Lasers and Intense Pulsed Light devices selectively target the dark pigment in the skin, breaking it down. This is then reabsorbed by the body and excreted through natural processes.

Pigmentation disorders are often more troublesome in skin of colour. Common pigmented skin conditions treated successfully  include:

  • Moles, Freckles & Sun Spots
  • Hormonal Pigmentation (Malasma)
  • Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)
  • Dermal Nevi
  • Becker Naevus
  • Poikiloderma Of Civatte

We use state of the art, medical grade, world renowned Laser & Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Platforms to treat sun damaged skin. Some of the machines we have at our clinics include:

  • Diolite 532 nm
  • Varilite 940 nm
  • Syneron™ eTwo
  • Alma™ Harmony
  • Lumenis™ M22
  • Alma DOT™ CO2
  • Lumenis Ultrapulse™
  • Alma Nd:YAG long pulse
  • Alma Nd:YAG Q-Switched laser

Important: Not all Laser and IPL devices are the same. For general public, It is important to understand that only the dermatological grade and medical strength Laser and IPL platforms are able to effectively tackle pigmentary skin lesions with the least risk of burning, scarring and pain. Not to mention far less number of treatments compared to beauty salon grade devices. Only trust your skin with qualified medical professionals.

Which Laser or IPL treatment is right for me?

This depends upon:

  • Your skin type
  • Extent of sun damage
  • Social downtime limitations

Patients with darker skin types can not be exposed to high energy laser or IPL treatments due to the risk of burning and darkening of skin pigment.

Similarly, patients who are unable to have red, swollen skin for a few days after a strong laser or IPL can not be treated with high energy treatments.

At the time of your initial consultation, we will be able to advise you about the best treatment option for you based upon the factors mentioned above.

How many treatment sessions would I need?

This depends upon the type of treatment chosen for you by your clinician. Some high energy treatments may fix the problem in as little as one session. For low energy treatments, multiple sessions (3 to 5) are usually required.

Are the treatments painful?

Most patients find Laser or IPL treatments somewhat uncomfortable but not intolerably painful. At Medaesthetics™ we make sure our patients are able to have treatments as painlessly as possible. To achieve this, we utilise:

-Topical numbing creams

-Cool air

-Laughing gas, to help reduce any discomfort.

Can I go in the sun afterward?

UV radiations from excessive sun exposure is the reason why you have the freckles and sun damaged skin. It is critical to avoid direct sun exposure after any skin treatment for first few days and use sun protective clothing, headgear and sun screens to prevent future sun damage.
