What is Fotofacial Laser Genesis?

Laser Genesis is a breakthrough laser treatment that targets the redness and capillaries in the skin. It also simulates the skins natural processes to reverse the signs of aging and sun damage and promote a vibrant, healthy looking complexion.

How does Fotofacial Laser Genesis work?

Micro-pulses of laser energy activate collagen remodelling to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and target unwanted brown spots and facial redness. Although the individual treatment results are subtle, the overall effect of a treatment series can be quite dramatic.

What are the benefits of Fotofacial Laser Genesis?

Laser Genesis helps to restore your skin’s youthful glow and appearance by improving common concerns like facial redness, brown spots, and fine lines and wrinkles. With quick treatments and no downtime, Laser Genesis can fit into your busy schedule and considered the perfect lunchtime procedure by many patients.

What areas can be treated?

Laser Genesis is an ideal treatment for the face and neck and other areas of the body with noticeable signs of raging, sun damage or scarring.

How many treatments are required?

A series of four to six Laser Genesis treatments (usually five treatments are needed) are recommended to achieve an optimal outcome and ongoing maintenance treatments are encouraged to sustain results over time. We will discuss a treatment plan during your consultation.

What does Fotofacial Laser Genesis feel like?

You will experience a gentle warming of your skin’s surface during the procedure. Patients often describe the treatment as relating and therapeutic. We will prescribe a topical anesthetic (EMLA cream) which you can apply to the face or neck and chest, or arms (the areas being treated) before you leave home. For some patients who are sensitive, we will use the Zimmer cooling device as well. Everything to make you more comfortable!

What are possible side effects?

You may notice a slight redness which will resolve within a few hours. Apply sunscreen and makeup and return to your normal daily activities immediately.

Will I get scabbing and oozing?

Not with this kind of laser. The first treatment may give you some pinkness for a day or two. Some of the darker spots may turn more dark before beginning to fade.

How do I look after the skin after each treatment?

Please apply a moisterizer (eucerin, lubriderm, aquaphor are some examples) about three to four times a day for the first week and twice a day thereafter. You should wear sunscreen if you are outdoors: an SPF 30 sunscreen works very well.

Which parts of the body can be treated to improve the appearance of my skin?

Most patients will begin with treatment of the face as that is, after all, what everyone sees! Even after the first two treatments, patients begin to get comments from others about how good the skin looks! The sequence of treatments is administered using different wavelengths, which allows us to improve brown spots, vessels, red skin, sun-damaged skin, etc.  After the face, most patients will choose to have the neck and chest treated (these can be treated together). Other areas commonly treated include hands, arms and legs: please see some representative photographs on this page which illustrate the improvements possible. We have literally hundreds more photographs you can see!
